Ghost Number Information -- requirement/use by the Postal Service

This report was the result of complaints filed by Butler Business/Mailing Services and our original article USPS Marketing… Ethically Challenged? published in 2004.
The result:
In the "Management's Comments" section page 4, it states that mail owner information is not required. In the "Managements Revised Internal Policy..." section on page 6, the last sentence states that [if provided] "the Postal Service can use customers' information for marketing purposes."
Therefore if you provide your customer data they will use it, introducing your customers' to more opportunities in the market place that might not include you!
